Who doesn’t love a little popcorn at the movie theater. And there are probably very few that haven’t tried the combination of salted popcorn and caramel popcorn in the same tub.
Here’s a slightly more delicious and grown-up version of the cinema hall favorite. This salted caramel popcorn is a sweet treat that’s perfect for a cozy movie night in or laid out in a large bowl at a party.
Sweet, salty, crunchy, and quite easy to make!
Caramel Popcorn
Ingredients
For the popcorn:
1/4 cup Oil
1/2 cup Dry Corn Kernels for popping
For the Caramel:
3/4 cup Sugar
125g Butter, chopped
2 tbs Honey
1/4 tsp Salt
1 cup Walnuts, optional
Directions
Heat oil in a large pot that has a lid. Keep the heat medium. Add 2 - 3 corn. When they pop, add the remaining corn. Cover with a lid. Shake pot a few times. Remove from the heat when popping stops completely.
Transfer these to a large bowl or pot, discarding kernels that haven’t popped.
To make the caramel, in a large pot, add sugar, butter and honey and cook over a medium heat. Stir occasionally for about 5 to 8 minutes, until sugar dissolves. Bring mixture to a boil and then continue to let it boil without stirring for another 5 to 8 minutes. The caramel will be darker and almost golden brown.
Remove from heat and add nuts now if you like. Pour the caramel onto the popcorn and stir till coated. Spread out the popcorn on a large plate or a baking try, preferably lined with some butter paper. When the popcorn cools, break into pieces and enjoy!
